Oct. 31st, 2024 12:56 pmWell, I'm on one of my favourite pastimes, deep dive crash course last minute solutions! You know that moment when you have a brilliant idea for something that has to happen soon, but you have almost no experience in the subject? That's what I'm talking about. Frankly, this has been far too frequent the pattern in working life and it's a happily crazy learning experience that's quite addictive – in a stressed and panicky way.
In the fantasy world of the Cub and myself, The Littlies,Phillius and Billius, always do a Halloween production at the pub they live in, down the road – we're talking ghostly footsteps, cries of 'woogie-woogie-woogie', the odd groan and outbreaks of giggles.
Last year, I had the mad idea of downloading a set of Hallowe'en sound effects to my phone and talking over the playlist. The first performance (18:30 - for the kids, you know) went well, so I jammed a few more tracks on and did an extended version.

This year, I fired up the audio-editing software I haven't touched in two years, recorded voice clips, jammed stuff together, hid in the bedroom with the duvet over my head to get a nice flat recording* , ^F'd the manual, googled problems and tinkered everything into place with minutes to spare for the one performance at half past eight, this year.
There was a last minute glitch which the Littlies fudged through, discovering, possibly, a werewolf in the pub toilets and throwing a bucket of water over their friend Milly, who'd come along to 'do the laughing' and had become hysterical**, Which led to an Uncle Dexter Rant to finish on and, overall, it was a success.
The problem is, what do I do for next year? 😄
