Jun. 14th, 2023 03:32 pmStill mostly sunny over the last few days, but with a good storm on Sunday evening. Hardly anything by tropical standards, but we did miss the major part of the rain and lightning, if the online maps are to be believed. It's a very useful tool, being able to see the advance of a storm in almost Real Time – a year or two back I was working with electrical gear in the garden with no waterproofing while the Panda reported on the rain-front. At ten minutes distance I started clearing away and was indoors before the first raindrops hit the garden. Twenty or so years back I was lucky to be able to get a synoptic chart for the day, let alone access to Doppler
RADAR.
The last couple of days have been far cooler and more comfortable, anyway.
So. Anyway-anyway.
I started a Python coding course this week, 'coz'. There're a couple of apps that might be useful to make and Blender has a Python API – what's to be lost in trying but hours?
That also made me get around to getting Git moving properly. I have some scripts that help get various tasks done using ffmpeg, a devil to run from command line, some bits and bobs that are useful from time to time and a couple of font-download processing scripts. They've helped me make a start with working out how to create a git repository and that, in turn, should help when I want to tinker with the things.
It's excellent being back at a command line and amazing to see the auld fingers just Do Stuff in Vi (or Vim, as we now seem to call it ;-) ). VI VI VI, the Editor Of The Beast is still applicable, whatever we call it.
I was amused that the primary method the course tutor suggests for getting help on various Python errors is 'Google and see what Stack Exchange has to say'. Stack Exchange was only just starting when I broke out of the IT loop. The idea of a manual or other reference work seems long gone :-D
Come to think, Git only came out around... 2005? The year we got married, that would be, and GitHub arrived on the scene the same year as The Cub and Stack Exchange: 2008.
The world changes and miracles become commonplace.
Now. A miracle that is by no means commonplace MIGHT take place at any moment, I suppose. If we're lucky. The Cub, who has been Angry again, is due home. She might just arrive in A Good Mood, but I have my doubts :D
Onward! She'll be wanting a ride in Dad's Taxi tonight.
RADAR.
